Rostelecom, MegaFon’s services not disturbed by LINX cut-off
MOSCOW, Mar 14 (PRIME) -- The disconnection of Russian telecom operators Rostelecom and MegaFon from Internet exchange point London Internet Exchange (LINX) will not affect speed or quality of connection, the Digital Development Ministry said on March 12 in a statement.
“It has become known today that Rostelecom and MegaFon were cut off from the LINX Internet exchange point, which is located in London. The disconnection from the British LINX will not impact speed or quality of connection of the national operators. Traffic will be redistributed between other Internet exchange points,” the ministry said.
The authority also said that the Russian users will not see any damage from the move.
“Over the recent several years, the Internet traffic running via the London IX has decreased significantly, this is why at the end of last year we planned to end the partnership with this organization in 2022 and started to redistribute traffic consistently. The current blocking will not affect the quality of the provided services,” a MegaFon spokesperson said.
Rostelecom said it ensures stable work of its digital infrastructure and connection networks for a reliable provision of services to all categories of its clients, including access to the Internet and traffic exchange.
“The company has reserves and alternative routes of traffic exchange with foreign sites,” Rostelecom said.
